Oracle / SQL Server Database Administrator

Interview Mode: In-person only

Work Authorization Accepted: US Citizens, Green Card holders – Local to Dallas, TX only

Work Location: Dallas, TX – Hybrid (2–3 days onsite; Thursday mandatory)

Yes – Hybrid (On-site Thursday + 1–2 other days per week)

Corporate office environment with collaborative cube/desk spaces

Who does this position report to?
Oncor DBA Function Lead / DBA Team Lead

Why is there a need for a consultant/contractor?
Support large-scale Oracle & SQL Server environments, assist with performance optimization, re-platforming projects, and upcoming cloud/SaaS integration

What is the start date of the contract?
ASAP (after onboarding)

What is the anticipated length/scope of the contract?
6–12 months SOW with high likelihood of ongoing extensions

What is the size of department?
Mid-to-large (6–15+ DBAs working with developers, analysts, architects)

What projects will the consultant be involved with?

  • Database performance monitoring and tuning
  • Query optimization and troubleshooting
  • Database re-platforming and sizing estimates
  • Schema and object creation, including partitioning strategies
  • Data retention compliance monitoring
  • Cloud/SaaS application integration (upcoming)
  • Coordination with automation team for DBA process scheduling

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and optimize SQL queries in SQL Server and Oracle/Exadata environments
  • Monitor database performance (memory, backups, sessions, long-running queries, space usage)
  • Create schemas, tables, functions, views, stored procedures, roles, and access permissions
  • Implement table partitioning and manage retention schedules
  • Write PL/SQL and shell scripts for automation and monitoring
  • Collaborate with architects, analysts, and DBA team members to meet performance and compliance goals
  • Document DBA processes in runbooks
  • Follow Agile methodology and JIRA workflows for task tracking

Role with the group:
Hands-on DBA — Oracle & SQL Server platforms


Required Skills:

  • 3+ years physical DBA experience (Oracle, SQL Server, Exadata, Postgres, MS Access)
  • Strong PL/SQL and shell scripting skills
  • Experience with Oracle compression techniques (HCC, advanced compression)
  • Strong query tuning and performance optimization skills
  • Knowledge of database data movement and processing
  • Experience with SQL Server Management Studio, DBeaver, TOAD, Oracle SQL Developer
  • Familiarity with Agile and JIRA

Desired Skills:

  • Hadoop or MongoDB experience
  • Master Data Management (MDM) methodology
  • Cloud database experience (AWS, Azure, or Oracle Cloud)
