What the Client Is Looking For:
In Summary:
They want a senior-level mainframe database expert with deep hands-on experience in IBM DB2 for z/OS and knowledge of legacy databases like IMS and ADABAS. The person should be confident in performance tuning, managing replication (IIDR), database design, and should be able to oversee third-party DBA support.
Strong communication and face-to-face interaction skills are important due to the hybrid work model and the onsite interview requirement.
Project Overview:
This role supports infrastructure and production operations, with a focus on mainframe database platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain IBM DB2 databases on z/OS mainframe platforms.
- Optimize database performance and ensure system stability and availability.
- Collaborate with other teams on database schema design and implementation.
- Supervise external DBA teams for database software installation, upgrades, and support.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing activities.
- Monitor databases for performance, availability, and issue resolution.
Required Skills:
- 8+ years of experience with:
- zDb2 (DB2 for z/OS)
- IMS DB/DC (Information Management System Data Base/Data Communications)
- ADABAS (Adaptable Database System)
- Proficiency in IBM Infosphere Data Replication Suite (IIDR).
- Deep expertise in IBM DB2 administration on z/OS.
- Strong in:
- SQL
- DB2 partitioning
- Indexing
- Performance tuning
- Understanding of data security and compliance standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in:
- Service level management
- Change management
- Incident resolution processes
- Familiarity with IMS DB/DC and ADABAS systems is a strong plus.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications in DB2 or related technologies are preferred.
